Air New Zealand has announced it will deliver long haul customers one of the
most innovative and comfortable in-flight experiences available.
Air New Zealand Chief Executive, Ralph Norris, has unveiled plans to transform
the long-haul flying experience for both economy and premium customers.
"From the middle of 2005, Air New Zealand will offer its customers travelling on
long-haul services an in-flight product that we believe will be second to none,"
Mr Norris says.
"Air New Zealand will deliver a truly unique Kiwi experience. The look and feel
of our cabin interiors, seats, in-flight entertainment system and food and
beverage service will set a benchmark for long-haul travel.
"Air New Zealand from its experience of flying some of the world's longest
routes knows the demands long haul travel places on customers. We have spent the
past year talking to our customers and staff about how to deliver an experience
that will exceed expectations."
Mr Norris says the fleet of Boeing 747s will be refitted at a cost of around
NZ$160 million, which will be funded through operating cash flow. The refit will
begin in the middle of next year and work on the last aircraft is expected to be
completed by early 2006.
Air New Zealand's eight new Boeing 777-200 ER aircraft, which start arriving
from September next year, will have the same interiors and product.
"The Air New Zealand long haul experience will have the sense of a natural
journey where shapes, colour and forms echo nature's qualities. We aim to
inspire tomorrow's traveller to discover new places and experience new
destinations on journeys," Mr Norris says.
