"Garuda ticks all the boxes we reckon define business class comfort"

Perth-Gatwick return via Jakarta and Amsterdam. This is an excellent service with good times and tight connections. Perth-Jakarta (737) has standard lounge type business seats which are quite OK unless you need a serious sleep (afternoon/evening so unlikely). Service, food and drink all perfectly adequate. Easy transfers within Jakarta airport with a 75 minute gap between flights. Jakarta-Amsterdam is 13.5 hours overnight in a new Boeing 777-300ER. Business is a 1-2-1 layout, with the middle paired seats alternating between being together for couples or separated by joinery for strangers. All seats therefore have direct aisle access. The seats are really comfortable and the lie flat bed mattress is the best we have experienced. The foot end is a tapered space which might be a bit short for really tall people. Service, food, drinks all perfectly fine. There is time for a morning wake up walk around Schiphol before the same 777 goes on to Gatwick, arriving at lunchtime. The trip back is the exact reverse. All flights were perfectly on time. Business lounges were basic, but it's all about that bed on the long overnight stretch. Highly recommended - shelling out A$2-3K more just to get premium lounges makes no sense to us when Garuda ticks all the boxes we reckon define business class comfort.

"the 1-2-1 arrangement is much appreciated"

Jakarta to London Gatwick (via Amsterdam) return. Short delay out of Jakarta for which we stood in the departure lounge; could have been better handled. I think they had a technical issue on the plane but there were no announcements to explain. The 777-300 is a modern aircraft that has a well appointed Business Class. I'm not sure that Garuda have made the greatest choice of sleeper seat, although the 1-2-1 arrangement is much appreciated. The ability to choose an individual seat with window view and aisle access is a big plus. Seats 6 to 8 are forward of the galley (First class is in front of them) and 9 to 13 (I think) are aft of the galley. Choose an odd numbered row if you want an individual seat where you sit closest to the window as this maximises privacy. The seats are neither wide nor particularly long so might be uncomfortable for the larger traveller. However, they are flat and the cushioning is comfortable. A good sized warm donna style blanket is provided. Food is pretty good; wines are ok but not at the top end of international Business class. Service was very good; I can see why they have started to win awards for staff quality; something that many Western airlines might learn from. The entertainment system is more than adequate with a good selection of films, etc. Cabin announcements are long (Indonesian, English and Dutch) and can be annoying if you are watching entertainment. I'm sure they could cut them back without impigning on safety, etc. In addition, the crew seemed to switch on the seat belt sign, restricting movement around the cabin every time there was the slightest bit of (perceived) turbulence - and the lights seemed to stay on for a long time. Again, this became annoying due to its frequency and length, and neither of my flights were at all bumpy as far as I was concerned. I realise there are safety concerns but this was taking it a bit too far. The lounge in Gatwick was a common user lounge that was crowded with very average food, drink and amenities. Not a place where you wanted to stay for any length of time. But the criticisms are very minor compared to the excellent value the flights offer; some 25% to 30% less than premium airlines' Business class. I'm happy to deal with a few small service issues if the airline provides a good sleeping platform, great in-flight service and reasonable food and entertainment. This is real value for your business dollar.

"Seat is adequate for flights up to 5 hours"

Perth to Jakarta return. Seat is adequate for flights up to 5 hours. Staff friendly and attentive. Food quality and selection was reasonable but lack of wine selection in Business class was a bit disappointing. Priority check in and use of lounge always a bonus that comes with Business class or qualified frequent flyers. Flight was delayed out of Perth by about an hour but most of that time was made up en route and no problems with connection to Amsterdam/London. Only three rows of seats in Business numbered 6 to 8. All pretty much the same, its just a matter of whether you prefer aisle or window.

Flew Garuda Executive from Denpasar to Sydney. First time with Garuda and I have to say I was impressed. Staff were excellent - there when you needed them but never hovering. I did not sample the dinner as I was asleep by that stage. The full lie flat style seat is far superior to the offerings of other airlines that service this route - and at next to no premium.

I fly the newest Garuda 777-300ER in Business from Amsterdam to Jakarta. Long flight (>13hours) but even better as a stopover via the Emirates or Singapore. The newest Garuda business seat is largely comparable (the same seat by 95%) with Etihad and Air Berlin business seats. But, however, Garuda inflight entertainment is much more better (incl. on-air broadcasting which gives me the possibility to follow world cup games live during the flight). The seat in general is very comfortable and equipped with all state of the art amenities but too short for people >180cm for a comfortable sleep (But it is a matter of opinion). Service where friendly and the food where quit good (three choices, Indonesian, European and Japanese style). All in all a very good performance of Garuda Indonesia with a very competitive product on the new 777-300ER.

CGK-AMS-CGK, cabin crew and food are excellent. Sitting in business class was great, the flat bed is comfortable though it might be not long enough for 6'+ tall people. In flight entertainment was great, as you have more option (especially the long haul flight).

Have flown Garuda executive class several times in the last year between Melbourne and Denpasar. Can't say enough about how great this service is. Seats comfortable, although not long enough in sleep mode for me at 191cm tall, food and drink fantastic, and service superb. And big bonus, each flight has been on time or early.

It is not a flat bed, but cradle style seat. Good seat pitch (42 inch) and only 12 seats. Food rest, personal touch screen TV with AVOD are on offer. Service was great, so was the food. If you could find a good bargain (often you could), by all means, give them a try.

Flew Bali-Jakarta-Amsterdam, Business class. Denpasar Domestic terminal business class lounge can hardly be called a lounge, just a few chairs, a bit of food, all very noisy, with constant announcements. Nice flight to Jakarta, plenty of space on Boeing 737-800 (2x2 configuration). The A330-200 to Amsterdam was superb, a very pleasant flight. Spacious, good entertainment (35 films plusmore), very good food, very nice cabin staff. Garuda has 2 sections of business class. Both have 3 rows of 2x2x2, with a screen between both seats if you want more privacy. A total of only 13 people in 36 seats, including a family with a baby, but in second part. Stop in Abu Dhabi at night so all are woken up. One can get out but I kept sitting. All in all a super experience. The "flat bed" is not quite flat, better than Singapore Airlines in their 777's, but not quite so comfortable that I was able to sleep. But I never do in planes.

SYD-DPS, Really impressed with service. A big improvement over the old Garuda. New aircraft, comfortable seats, friendly attendants, nice food, Drinks plentiful. Well worth the cost compared to business class on other airlines.

The seat onboard the A330-300 is not a flat-bed seat, it is a regional route lie-flat. But still it's a great seat, cabin crew are friendly and energetic, IFE screens are bigger than on the A330-200.

Amsterdam to Jakarta on Garada. Despite a stop in Dubai this was a great flight, much better than I expected. Very comfortable seats, extremely friendly cabin staff and great food. This is great value for money.

The new business class seat is very nice with huge pitch and horizontal flat. It is very comfortable for sleeping. The new AVOD system on this seat is very friendly to use with 25 movies to choose from but the screen at 11 inch is too small. The mood lighting on the Executive Cabin really helps as well for a good rest.

Melbourne-Denpasar Business Class. Seats were older 80's style seats, well spaced apart, individual tv screens but only about three channels of movies and the airmap. Also had the big screen showing a movie - very disappointing entertainment. Food excellent, service was very friendly and efficient. A very comfortable flight.
