BUSINESS CLASS : the new angled lie-flat seat tested on Boeing 767 flights. Whilst an improvement on the old AA seats, this is a poor competitor to other major airlines new business class seats. In the upright / semi reclined position, we found the width of the seat to feel quite tight - particularly at shoulder height where you feel very close to your neighbour. It is very much an angled lie-flat, and not suitable for side sleepers : even on your back, there is a tendency to slide down just as you fall asleep. Bigger / split table, and seat movement novelty, but this does not conceal the fact this is not a very comfortable seat. Privacy levels restricted with very small partition flap. Comfort Score : 7/10

FIRST CLASS : review on the older flagship suite, where comfort levels generally good. In seated position it offers reasonable privacy and comfort - fully flat, there are a few bumps that intrude, and the cushion support is too firm and needs a mattress enhancer to help sleep. Comfort score : 8/10

The most uncomfortable seat I have been subjected to by an airline. I really can't understand how an airline in this era can "upgrade" their seating and do such a poor job of it. You cannot lie flat and, in fact, slide right out of the seat when it is in its flattest position. The seats are narrow and the person in the window seat cannot get out without waking up their neighbor. Other services are average or below, including the entertainment units which are clumsy to use and have to be distributed by a flight attendant. I think I actually prefer the old business class seats!

Got to try the new biz class seats when my flight from MIA to LGA had a 757 replaced by a 767 at the last minute. For a 2 hour flight, the seats were great but for an international/overnight flight they are really awful. The sloping lie-flat position where the seat is almost at floor level and your feet are inserted into the hole of the seat in front of you which is very confining. In the window you are trapped if the aisle seat is reclined. In the aisle seat, the armrest drops to allow extra width but that means you have no protection from the carts, feet, etc passing by in the dark - and remember, the lie-flat position is just inches off the floor. The controls for the seat are placed at an upright angle on the other armrest and are framed by hard edged metal, meaning your elbows constantly bang against the metal frame - very uncomfortable. Overall, it's as if AA never had people fly in these seats before rolling them out. The reality is, they did do extensive trials but ignored all the design flaws. This seat just does not stand up to what BA, VA, Qantas, etc are offering.

I think the new seats are quite nice except for sleeping! They are not flat and it takes a lot of adjustment to get them near flat. The entertainment system is good but the staff has to come around an hour before landing and collect not just the headphones (annoying enough and a good reason to bring your own if you want to sleep) but also the entire entertainment system which they have to disconnect from the seat. I asked them why on earth they do this and they said its for inventory control. It would make approximately 25 times more sense to just look around the cabin and see if any one of them is missing than to collect them all and count them. The commotion this causes will wake the dead.

LHR-JFK-LHR in business class to JFK and first back to LHR. The new business class seats had just been installed. Config was 2-3-2. The seats look too big for the space and when seated feel cramped. Width ok in but I was struggling to find leg room space with the blanket on the floor. The most annoying thing was the remote control. In order to use a preset option to go from upright to angled, the seat would take you on a detour of the most uncomfortable positions available. Could not sleep in lie-angled position.

I recently flown first class from Miami to Buenos Aires on 777. I was disappointed the flagship suit seats were removed and replaced by the old first class international seats. The view on this kind of seats is still vhs and image is small and very bad quality. The seats though wide and become a flat bed, are not as comfortable as the ones this plane and this route used to have. When in an upright position for take off, landing, etc the angle is strange and some how uncomfortable. Even though the seat becomes a flat bed it does not feel right/comfortable as you get bothered by lumps and portions of the seat. The controls of the seat are also very old and cumbersome. If it wouldn't be for my elite status with American and miles I will be spending this kind of money in another airline.

Experienced new business class seat on my last trip to London. What a disappointment -- cramped feeling in the cabin, and the seat/table layout and IFE format is a mess. Angled recline is uncomfortable. Had hoped that AA would offer something good, but best advice is to avoid AA. United is bringing in a proper flat bed which will hit AA for sure. Best alternatives are British Air or Virgin at the moment.

MIA-MAD  round trip from Miami to Spain in the new business class seats. On the first flight I found them quite uncomfortable and small in space. To some level you feel a bit claustrophobic - the seat makes certain manuvers up and down and into the slot under the seat in front of you that if you are not familiar with you will feel you will be trap. On the second flight when more familiar with the seat it was better and I enjoyed the trip more.

2x3x2 configuration on 777. Seat width and pitch acceptable. Angled lie flat with individual monitor but not on demand programming. These seats probably acceptable in the early 1990s but are outdated, uncomfortable for sleeping. Seat is ok but configuration is not. Business class seats should have direct aisle access. If you are paying for business class seats, fly another airlines such as Virgin, Singapore, Air New Zealand, etc. all of which have far superior seats than AA and all have direct aisle access. American Airlines aircraft are about 20 years behind compared to those of Asian or European or even Middle Eastern carriers.

FRA-ORD in American's New Business Class and I would describe it as not up to international standards. The new seats are uncomfortable, hard to adjust, too small and confining. If you are seated next to a window you cannot get past the person on the aisle to get out of the seat. The seats are so large that the cabin is now quite cramped and claustrophobic feeling with very narrow aisles. The new entertainment systems are cumbersome and suffer from the same problem that they have with the headsets - the flight attendants must pass them out and collect them, and will wake you up to do so. The food was OK, but they were out of 3 of the 4 entree choices by the time they got to our seats, and the cabin was not even full. The blankets are comfortable, but they are enormous and there is no place to store them. I will be switching to another airline.

Flew the new seats on a short flight between LAX and DFW. I was surprised at how confined you feel when seated in this seat. There seems to be no room in any direction except up. You feel as though you are in a cage. I sat at the window and it was almost impossible to get over the person next to you if they are in the recline position. I could never get the seat to lie flat no matter what I did with the controls, which are way to difficult to understand. The only thing positive was the thickness of the padding and the new quilts that are distributed instead of blankets. From my perspective, I would never choose this product to fly internationally. It's a much worse experience than AA's previous seat. Stay away if you can.
