BUSINESS CLASS : new seat offers good sleep comfort with improved cushion
support, and better privacy. Length adequate, width good for sleeping. Back to
front layout - some like it, others not! A good sleep. Score : 9/10
FIRST CLASS : older style pod seat. Offers fair sleep and seat comfort,
but now looking tired and lacks support, and privacy. A product that BA needs to
upgrade if it is to match competition. Overall score : 7/10 |

JFK-LHR on the upper deck with new club world. Simply impeccable, the
cabin is outstanding and very comfortable. Service very good, however,
there were only 8 people on the upper deck on this flight. Had pre-
flight supper in the lounge and went straight to sleep on board;
breakfast choice was not 100% ideal in my view. Otherwise by far the
best business cabin product I've seen. |

(except first row). Last row on BA is very noisy because of galley just
behind. Flight was full and service slow. |

JFK-LHR. Seats 14A, 14B. Apparently flight BA182 from JFK on this
overnight aircraft has yet to reconfigure the new Club World cabin seats
as we were disappointed to see the lie-flat seats with the usual BA
navy/tan leather in the old layout, 2-4-2 on the main cabin. Enjoyed
the sleeper service with usual buffet pre-flight supper in their
Terraces Lounge, but found breakfast (onboard) rather bland, and typical
but service was the usual "five star dining," save for their fresh OJ
and smoothies. It was a nice change on our return, LHR-JFK. UPPER
DECK: SEATS 61J, 61K. Only a few months old, BA's redesigned and
reconfigured Club World sleeper seats are easier to adjust to long-haul
flights, using smart choice of brighter tones (fabric) to feel more
"airy" not stuffy, compared to the old standby. 61K offers at least 2-3
extra storage bins at seat level next to the window, offering a flat
surface to keep my books, magazines, bottled water while in-flight.
Their new blankets and pillows follow the same lighter color scheme,
ivory w/muted blue tones, compared to their old navy woolies. Molton
Brown his/hers in-flight pack is more discreet, offering the usual
socks, eye mask, toothbrush, but somehow their lotion, toothpaste and
lip balm containers have been signficantly "downsized," as you get small
sample tubes, only 1/4 the former generous amounts they used to offer.
The seats themselves are comfortable in a 2x2 layout of the Upper Deck
cabin; everything you need is controlled by a row of one-touch,
universally easy to understand icons in front of you within reach. Your
individual screen slowly releases and angles toward you at the touch of
button; same for the privacy divider - it lowers with the push of a
button (no silly fan fabric as in the old cabins); there's a great
drawer for storing your shoes, while the pod seat itself is designed
with more height to give you maximum privacy and comfort from other
passengers. The tray table needs support as it seems a bit flimsy,
given only minor turbulence shook liquids from my drinking glasses.
Perhaps they could install a support bracket for more stability?
Entertainment, now offering Video-on-demand allowing you to start, stop
your film at any moment is a nice touch. The options for lighting also
seemed a bit compromised as only a small reading light was available
with a new dimmer slide. Could not find the overhead light, even as it
remains as a button on the passenger remote. Overall, on a 7 hr flight,
with a Bose headset, I was able to get 4 hours of uninterrupted,
undisturbed, constant sleep on BA's Club World cabin, a refreshing and
welcome change to the competitive world of these airline's lie-flat
seats, all vying for your business. |

NRT-LHR, seat 19J. Offered drink and choice of newspaper on arrival. Hot
towels before dinner, 3 course, 3 choices for each course. 14 choices
for movies. Great seats, did not sleep much, but otherwise I was able to
lie flat and get some good rest. Friendly staff. Only bad thing was that
the DC power was not enough to keep up with my computer usage.

amenities have been updated, luxurious pyjamas and slippers! Only thing
left now is more cabin mood lighting such as new Club World lighting -
that would complete the cabin. |

HKG to LHR in First. I don't like BA's First class seats so much. When they
were introduced some years ago they might have been one of the best in the airline industry but
are over-rated nowadays. They are too narrow for first class and I are
not much better than BA's Club World seat, especially now that BA is upgrading their Club World.
The service by the FA was good. |

LHR-SEA very good seclusion and privacy. Can highly recommend 1A & 1K. There is some traffic to
the front wardrobe prior to take off but after that absolutely no disturbance. These two seats
actually have a lot more foot room and being right away from the galley there is no clattering of
dishes etc. Seats fold absolutely flat - wonderful! Must say the "window" in the LH side loo is novel. Can't see whay they needed a blanking switch.
Boeing 777 : SEA-LHR. Avoid the LH aisle like the plague especially if you are trying to sleep as that is the
aisle favoured by the crew when moving from the front galley/cockpit to the rear. There must be an
access panel in the floor as there are odd creaking noises whenever anyone walks on it. Otherwise
usual impeccable first service. PS also avoid row 1 as it is right next to the toilets

LHR-SYD. Very comfortable seats/beds. Outbound in upper deck much preferable to main deck which we had on
inbound flight-very cold cabin. Staff on LHR/BKK very friendly and helpful, but not
so on BKK/SYD. Lounge in T4 very comfortable, Qantas in SYD not so good. Very dissapointed that son
who joined flight at BKK in economy was not allowed to visit us in Club, despite others being
upgraded to empty seats, despite him being a member of Executive Club and a frequent flyer with BA. |

LHR-LAX. BA First is in a different league to its Club World service. Better
food and wines and you get a lot more privacy in your demi-cabin. Seats 2A and
2K are the best . Avoid 1A and 1K because you'll be continually be disturbed by
other passengers going to the wardrobe. Offering a mini facial and massage in
LHR's First Class lounge before you board is a nice touch. |

BA has figured out how to bend the laws of physics and put 8 across seating in
Business Class and not make it feel too claustrophobic. The seats are a bit
narrow and if you are over 6 feet tall you are going to feel a little cramped
length wise. There is not much extra room for ‘stuff’ so you will definitely be
getting out of your seat and into the overhead once or twice a trip for laptop,
head call, etc. I think that seat location is critical on this one – you don’t
want to be too far to the back (World Traveler Plus) because of the noise and
the first row is too close to the galley and heads. In the center section if you
in the middle you will always be crawling over the outboard chairs and if you
are on the aisle then someone will always be crawling over you. What’s make
these seats even better is that many flyers are just getting off an AA flight in
London and they are still tired from the Trans Atlantic part of their trip on
American’s crummy business class. On BA now you can get the sleep you were
supposed to get earlier in the trip.

1A and 1K are the best seats for me. I agree that being next to the wardrobe is
inconvenient during pre-take off and after landing but there is much greater
space under the window at these seats. Also, you do not get anybody walking past
you once you are airborne. Only problem is that these seats do not normally
become available for prebooking until 24 hours before departure - so hard to
guarantee.

LHR- Singapore return. Among 6 airlines I've travelled on this route, BA's extra
padded, "new" Club seat is unquestionably the class leader. One irritating minus
is the too narrow seat width for most westerners and "generously-proportioned"
Asians as I am - consequent on an impractical "69" seat layout which may fit
more seats but detracts from optimum comfort of back-facing seats. Club
passengers however wisely avoid middle sandwich seats downstairs where possible.

LHR to MIA return in First Class with a Friend. Service was excellent by a
husband and wife cabin crew up front. Two friends from another cabin were
allowed to join us for the rest of the flight after lunch had been cleared away.
Totally hospitable crew couldnt do enough for us, not snooty and not pretentious
at all - like so many of the first crew often are. Food was average not a lot
better than Club, wines are far far better.

LHE-SYD return. Lovely flights both ways (via Bangkok), both upstairs with a
window seat. If you get the seat near the emergency exit or at the back of the
cabin, then you don't have to step over anyone. I was lucky to get these seats
by checking in on-line literally 24hr before the flight. The flight attendants
were friendly and hospitable. The food was OK, but pretty nasty on the BKK-SYD
and BKK-LHR stretches. (I'd ordered VLML and changed it to AVML on the way back
in the hope it'd be better; no such luck.) BA's lounge at LHR is very relaxing
and the services available in it very good. Qantas's lounge at SYD in contrast
seems rather plain.

LHR-SFO. The very best business class seat, I love the service in the upper
desk. One mention is the small drink tray, when you get up from your seat you
can easily get a shower from your drink. Also the BA inflight entertainment
needs refreshing and updating and is not as varied as Virgin, but BA beats
Virgin in service and quality of staff. Business Class upperdeck is better than
First on BA, less formal and the best in the air.

SYD-LHR. Lie flat beds excellent. Nice and private without being hemmed in.
Staff and food top notch. Can't wait for on demand entertainment as the current
programming is limited. The only let down was the lack of instructions for the
foot stool. I thought it didn't go all the way up. A kindly steward noticed this
and proactively adjusted it, without me asking, when I was enjoying a midnight
snack in the galley. I only figured out how to adjust it when preparing to land
in London. The blankets gave off that many static sparks I felt like a mini
thunderstorm! After seeing your survey, I noticed most people slept curled up on
their sides. There was enough space to do this despite being a more dense than
normal 8 across configuration.

I wish there was a 4 star option because the seats are better than OK but not
quite perfect. Best to sit in an aisle so you dont have to climb over people in
the middle of the night. Can't say enough about the Sleeper Service meal. The
food is not world class but you'll have a decent dinner from an above-average
buffet in the lounge. A couple of drinks later you're ready to fall asleep as
soon as you reach altitude. Club seats are a little narrow but unless you're
really broad-shouldered you'll settle down and get some sleep. If you move in
your sleep then you might get annoyed. I toss and turn in bed and found that
once I got comfy I had to resist the urge to shift. Blankets and pillows are
fine but nothing special. The one thing that really bugs me is the headrest. You
can slide the headrest up to the end of the bed but it takes up a few valuable
inches of bed space. Not very helpful if you're tall and want to stretch out. I
find the little divider screen gives you enough privacy for sleeping.

BA Business class has been excellent since the introduction of the Flatbed seat.
Despite my 6'2'' I normally get 4 hours of sleep between SFO and LHR. Probably
the best in the industry on long haul. The only detrimental part of the design
seems to be the fold-out beverage tray in front of the passenger. Have seen many
passengers getting their favorite wine etc. into their laps, even without any
air disturbances. The FAs confirm that one. Just had a port wine shower myself
on way into Cairo. Much better than the commute into Tokyo with JAL.

Class, and to say the least I do no expect to go on Business Class after
enjoying BA's superb service and cabin environment in First Class. The food
whenever you want, and the bed preparation on the way back from LHR to KWI truly
made it an enjoyable flight. The only setback is that you cannot have a

With the seat divider up, it provides even more privacy than First. The BA seat

777-200 LHR-PVG and PEK-LHR (11 hour sectors). Club world has lie flat beds
which are better for me than the sloped flat seats on some other carriers. It
also means you can sleep on side whereas on conventional seats you cannot. For
me there are two downsides which mean the BA product is not as good as the
ordinary seat products. Firstly they are designed for short people. I am 6'5"
and find it impossible to sleep with my legs cramped up into the seat. The first
class product just accomodate my legs, but the Club World seat is very short of
leg room in flat bed mode. The second problem for me is the peculiar seating
layout. I get airsick traveling backwards and this means I cannot have a window
seat on BA as all Club World seats by a window face backwards. Comfortable for
day time, lousy for night time.

just how much better first would be over club. Seats are wonderful, comfort and
support levels are just right. Is the extra price worth it? Once the Club World

filling first when Club is so good. For a bit less money, I'd go first every
time. Spoke to a few Australian travellers on both journeys who didn't have many
