Continental Airlines Business Class BusinessFirst seat

BUSINESS CLASS : a conventional seat style, arranged 2x2x2. Good seat
pitch, and reclining into an angled lie-flat position. CO gives the recline as
170 degrees, but in our 777 tests the full recline did not feel this flat.
Upright / relaxing position the seat is quite comfortable, although no privacy
from the neighbouring seat. The seat reclines down within a small hood that
offers a little privacy. In flat recline, the seat is of the sliding-down
variety, and difficult to sleep / find a comfortable position. Seat width is
okay, but fully reclined the seat cushions still have too many bumps/lumps. For
a premium business class product, we would expect Continental Airlines to
upgrade to a better quality product, as the present seat falls below comfort
standards of many of their competitor airlines. Comfort Score : 7/10 |

MAN-EWR on 767. The seats are very wide and reasonably comfortable when sitting.
Sleeping however is not as comfortable due to the old style cradle seats. The
food was pretty good and the cabin crew were very attentive. IFE is pretty poor
and is not on demand.

IAH-LGW-IAH: I thought the seats were very roomy. The service and food was
excellent. There was plenty of storage space either in the seat back or in the
overhead compartment. However, I agree about problems with the seat in the
sleeping position. I keep sliding down. After check in at LGW, I was given a
pass to the Emirates lounge. Very posh with excellent food. The return flight
service was excellent. They need to upgrade their seat, or I'll switch over to
BA.

Equipment showing age, not competitive with Cathay and Singapore. Seats extremely uncomfortable,
no lumbar support - difficult to operate positions, etc. Configuration is tight -- seat in front
is in your face. Food still better than most. On 15+ hour flight cabin attendants spend a great deal
of time chatting with each other

The seat despite not being 180 is still comfortable. As for the service, this is where other airlines
manage to run past Continental. Would it take that much more for the FAs to take their time as they go
through meal service; it is a 15 hour flight after all. Would it take so much effort to tidy up the
cabin! |

EWR-NRT-IAH. Seats are showing their age, fabric is worn and torn. I am 6' tall, and footrest not
long enough to let me stretch my legs. Pitch is too small. Rigid privacy guards at top of seat dug
into my shoulders when seated upright, okay when reclining. Not comfortable for sleep.

EWR-HKG, BEI -EWR. Space is adequate. The seat didn't go flat. Difficult to pass over the
neighbouring seat if he/she is sleeping. Table and storage space is minimal. Overall, I am paying
too much over the coach price.

TLV-EWR : Seats once the cutting edge but no longer. The difficulty in
overcoming the set positions for reclining partially and fully is annoying and
fixing a comfortable position is easy. On several recent trips the seats
themselves are showing wear and tear and on one occasion the footrest actually
fell onto the floor.

The seat was difficult to operate and not comfortable. Continental needs to keep the cutting edge on their "once" stellar product. Have recently
traveled on Singapore's new Business class seats. Continental should take notes on seat and service.

New seats do not go flat and as others have said, you keep sliding down. The
presets are an inconvenience. I would rather have full control of the back rest,
foot rest etc, setting the angles comfortable for me. It is time for Continental
to up-date the entertainment system and to put regular sockets for computers.

This product was decent when it was introduced 15 years ago. Today it is
outdated. There is little to no room when the seat in front of you in a "flat"
position. The seats and accessories are well-worn with the color fading on the
screens. Nooks and crannies are full of crumbs and gunk. If you find a great
deal, consider taking it. If you have options out of IAH on Lufthansa, AF or an
all business flight, take it.

The seats are too close to each other for long haul flights : only 55 inches!
Not good. Too tight for tall people. Not recommended if you have a choice.

Seats are nothing like flat, and to call this Business "First" is something of a
joke! Well off any proper international First Class standards, and of course
well below quality of comfort provided by likes of British Airways or Virgin
Atlantic. If CO is really cheap, then try it - but you will be disappointed if
you expect 21st century comforts - this product is really about 15 years old and
shows!

TLV-EWR. Seat width and support were good but the angled flat bed put pressure
on my feet while trying to sleep. The controls were easy to operate but limited
privacy between adjoining seats.

As a regular traveller from the UK to the States using Continental Business
First. The seats are comfortable but it is a pity the pitch could not be a
little more - if the seat in front is fully reclined you have very little room
when sitting behind.

LGW-EWR-LGW. The seat is not fully flat and I have to sleep on my side (6'4") -
this means that my Bose Noise Reducers hit headrest! Seat width is good. Centre
two seats in Rows 2, 3 and 4 are best in front part (Rows 1-5) of BusinessFirst.
The rear part of BusinessFirst (Rows 6-10) are not so good: noise from galley
seems more intrusive and also Economy passengers have to pass through this area
to reach their seats. Continental offers better space than KLM in Boeing 777 -
seat configuration in Continental is 2-2-2, whereas it is 2-3-2 in KLM with
narrower seats.

Business First from Newark NJ to Manchester UK. Seats were not flat, but at 170
degrees, so I found myself sliding down slowly, which meant I felt pressure on
my feet from the foot rest. On the upside, you could customise the seat to any
position, or use the 3 presets. Cradle was probably a better option on
reflection. On the night flight, then attendants were chatting away, which did
disturb your sleep. Best seats are centre aisle as there are only 2 so no one
disturbs you and you don't disturb them. I thought the seats were a little too
wide as when sitting, I could not put my arms on the arm rests and I am medium
build.

NRT-EWR. The seat is not fully flat and at a slight angle, but I (6"6) could get
some good rest on this 12 hr flight - albeit mostly be sleeping on my side.
