BUSINESS CLASS : not all aircraft are fitted with the newer business class seat, and the old style seats offer
a very limited recline - whilst comfortable in the sitting/relaxing position, the full recline is not conducive to
any real sleep comfort. The new business class seat is of the angled lie-flat style, although in full recline does not offer a fully flat surface - more of a Z design. Score : 7/10
FIRST CLASS : The new First class seats are the pod style, and offer a flat bed design. With a mixture of
single seats (window position) and pairs in the cabin centre, the seats are comfortable in both the sitting/relaxing positions
and when converted to the flat bed format - downside that the seat cushion provides a rather hard mattress support
when in bed layout. Score : 8/10 |

BAH to BKK. Seats did not recline as bulkhead was right behind them, footrests broken and did not
work, nor did entertainment system. Aircraft was old and not in good condition. Spent the whole time
virtually sitting upright in the seats. Cabin crew seemed unconcerned. |

Business Class BKK-BAH-LHR. I was very disappointed with the flat bed seats they use. They are too
narrow. The join between the two portions of the sea are uncomfortable. When changing from the
sitting position to the lying down position the part of the seat that supports your back reclines and
the part your posterior is parked on moves forward to create the flat bed. The join between the 2
somehow creates an uncomfortable feeling like you are laying on something in your bed. The lounge at
Bahrain was excellent but very cold due to the high setting of the air conditioning. Onboard service
excellent and food delicious. I could only justify 3 stars but I would try Gulf again.

BAH to MNL. This aircraft used by Gulf Air is a really old plane - seats
with a lot of broken parts, bits held on with Duck Tape.

Airbus A340 Business Class

Gulf Air is still using some really old planes on the BAH-BKK route.
Seats worn, tatty and bits held on with Duck Tape. Seats are not
angled-flat bed or flat bed - they are the same as economy but a little
bigger. Footrests broken.

Bahrain to Paris. While I have previously enjoyed
other contemporary F class products on QF/CX/SQ, this would have to be the best aeroplane seat I
have slept in. Fully flat, wide, long enough for my 195cm frame, and actually feels like you are
sleeping on a bed, rather than a bench. Exemplary cabin service to boot. Sky Chefs a nice touch.

This aircraft had the new flat bed/seat installed and it is terrific. Unlike
Gulf Air's A330 aircraft these seats a fully flat (the A330 seats are on an
angle), there was none of the usual sliding down the seat feeling. The pitch has
also been increased from 63 to 73 inches (over the A330 seats) I have travelled
in J class in QF/SQ/BA/EK and I though these seats and the amount of room to be
the best.

Sleeping comfort fantastic. The crew even makes your bed ready for sleep with
bed sheet, blanket and nice soft pillow. Combined with the superb food and crew
friendliness an outstanding experience. Amenities however poor except for the
pijamas. Overall the best flights I ever experienced.

Flew Business BAH-LHR on the newly fitted Skybeds. I was very comfortable and
slept for 5 hours (The flight is 7 hours) and landed refreshed. The blanket
itself is double-sided, each with a different texture, and you are provided with
2 pillows, one leather and a huge nice comfortable one. Furthermore, very nice
food (5 star). However, an average entertainment system compared to Emirates and
Qatar Airways.

Airbus A340-300
First Class

Even though not a flat 180 degree recline, the 170 degrees provides a great
sleep. Seats are wide enough and long enough for a relaxing deep sleep. Cabin
crew are quiet and make sure lighting is appropriate and service to other non
sleeping pax is considerate. (I scored it a 10, rather than 5 - however, an 8 is
more appropriate) I understand that new flat seats for F and J class are coming
at end of 2004.
