BUSINESS CLASS : A mixture of seat types offered by LAN with some Premium Business class seats offering a very good, flat bed seat comfort - contrasting with poorer, older seats on some A340 / other aircraft which have a limited recline and are based on the old cradle style. New Premium Business Score : 9/10 / Old Business Class Score : 6/10. Score : 7/10

FIRST CLASS : Older style seats with full flat recline, near to 180 degrees. Being a traditional style seat, the flat bed comfort is somewhat limited, and whilst the sitting / relaxing position is comfortable, the seat lacks proper sleep comfort, privacy is also poor. Score : 7/10

Although not a flat bed style seat, LAN business class seat in A340 is excellent. Value for money on this particular flight segment is second to none - LAN Biz class at a normal full economy price (QF or ANZ).

SYD- SCL return. Seats work fine, but they are not the flatbed style. At 6"5' tall it takes a while to get comfortable. I recommend you get at least two pillows and stuff one under the bum or hips to get a more comfortable position. You get the usual problems of crawling over your partner passenger in times of need, so make your comfort stops before all the seats go down on the night flight.

GIG-SCL. New layout has no First Class, having been replaced by a larger Premium Business cabin. Seats are narrow yet recline 180 degrees. Found them somewhat on the hard side, and takes a long time to master the many different electronic controls. Excellent selection of films and movies on demand yet several seats reported problems with the system. Catering has apparently returned to the old usual Business Class with ugly carts: previously they had tested more of an individual tray prepared in the galley which was more elegant and similar to First Class. The colours of the new cabin are attractive with the exception of the fake wood which is an ugly red which detracts from the otherwise nice cabin. Food and wine remains of a high standard as usual with LAN.

Only five seats in the cabin. Standard First Class seats with 180° angle, full electronic control. Very tight and small cabin.
