Flying Mabuhay Class was a nice surprise. A warm welcome, an offered drink (no champagne) and a selection of 3 main courses. There was time to snooze and relax in the angled flat seast (similar to Lufthansa business class) of Boeing 747-400 upper deck in service for flight PR 306 MNL-HKG.

Melbourne-Manila. After a lovely new 777 on the Melbourne/Sydney - Manila route for about a year, Philippine Airlines has returned to using old outdated A340-300 planes. Business seats are the old style recliners retired by better airlines more than 10 years ago. The seats are only marginally better than economy and very poor to sleep in. Seat fabric was torn in some places and the mechanical adjustment of the seat hard to operate. Qantas's Business Class on this route, with it's flat business seats and proper Business Class service, puts Philippine Airlines to shame.

It's just a little better than Economy. The plane was old, seats just recline a little bit at an awful angle. I feel like I am sliding down. Meals were just fair.

I sat in 1D. Good amount of compartments to place your belongings. Seat comfortable and I believe I was able to lay flat versus the 747, which is more of a tilt. This plane was refurbished and seating looked better. Good massage function and controls easy to use. There are much better business seats on other airlines but you not nonstop from lax to Manila.

I would describe Philippine Airlines Business Class as virtually a wider economy seat with a better service and a better meal. Leg room cramped, the seat has very little recline and when the passenger in the row in front reclined access to the aisle is most difficult. Not worth the extra cost over economy.

The seat is wide with some slight recline. But the biggest disappointment is the pitch, which is like being in economy class on other airlines. It is cramped and uncomfortable. For those seated by the window, getting access to the aisle is a real effort. Philippine Airlines needs to decide if they want to offer a true business class or something that vaguely resembles it.

New mabuhay class seating, which is a sloped 170 degree recliner. The seat width was adequate and the comfort was good enough to get a bit of sleep.

Angled flat seat is an improvement on their old seat, but recline isn't comfortable for sleep. Surprised that PAL chose a rather out of date seat after so many years of deciding how to upgrade the Mabuhay cabin. Seats felt cramped on return flight that was full, and got trapped into a window seat on 1 sector. A seat to avoid if you are looking for a comfortable ride.
